Mike Uhrlaub, PT, Director, CEO

I grew up in Hastings, NE where I was active in football, wrestling, and track. I injured my left knee playing football my senior year of high school and underwent surgery which ended my football career. After physical therapy, I was able to return to wrestling, but then injured my right knee and had another surgery just 6 weeks after my left knee. Through lots of hard work and an amazing physical therapist, I returned to wrestling and was able to earn my spot back on the team and finish the second half of the season. I qualified for the Nebraska State Wrestling tournament despite my injuries. That experience was what made me want to be a physical therapist.

After I graduated from high school in 1989, I joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic. I was stationed in Germany with the 4th Squadron 7th Calvary, 3rd Armored Division. I served in Operation Desert Shield and Operations Desert Storm where I earned the Army Commendation Medal and Combat Medical Badge for service in The Battle of 73 Easting with my unit. In 1992, I started college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then attended physical therapy school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and graduated with High Distinction in 1997. I worked for Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA for 9 years before opening Flex Physical Therapy in 2006.

In 1993, I started competing in powerlifting competitions. I am a former USA powerlifting judge and competitive powerlifter. I was nationally ranked in the top 25 in 1997 and 1998 (275 and 308-pound weight class). I have owned and operated Flex Physical Therapy since 2006 and have 26 years of experience as a physical therapist. I have 2 kids, Kaia and Garrett and enjoy spending time with them as much as possible. I enjoy running, hiking, biking, fishing and being outdoors. I am active in my church, City Light Council Bluffs.

I have been a physical therapist for 26 years in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. I have worked with athletes from all levels from high school to college to professional level. I have provided sports medicine services and coverage for several area high schools for football, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, track, soccer, baseball and softball.

I have attended many continuing education courses throughout my career. I am a certified Multifunctional Movement therapist, 830 Cold Laser therapy, and Hesch Sacroiliac Practitioner. I have extensive training in manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, and neuromuscular re-education.

My Core Values Are:
1. The value of honoring God and following Jesus
2. The value of loving others
3. The value of developing close relationships
4. The value of honesty
5. The value of integrity

“For the Spirit of God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV

I want to fix back pain that keeps patients from living life on their terms. I see patients every day who can’t sit, sleep, work, go for walks, or just play with their kids because of chronic lower back pain. So often, folks just don’t know what to do. They get stuck in a never-ending cycle of pain, spasms, and inability to move which causes more deterioration and then more pain. It is my mission to end this cycle of lower back pain, restore hope and guide them to a higher level of health. Our motto is “We give movement and movement is life!”

I am the CEO and physical therapy director. I see a full caseload of physical therapy patients while also managing all operations of the company.

Some treatments I enjoy treating are Lower back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, foot and ankle injuries along with sport medicine injuries.

I really enjoy the team I work with and developing long-lasting relationships with my patients. I love to see patients not only heal physically from their injuries but seeing transform their lives for the better as they achieve their goals.
